Putting Sustainability into Focus through Novel Concepts
Radicle Growth operates a venture capital firm in California that applies a company-building platform to discover and support emerging business in food and ag tech. They partner with entrepreneurs to turn ideas into thriving game-changing companies through funding, guidance and experience. Additional operational services and strategic partnerships provide food and ag tech companies with the power to go to market. Angel’s experience working with organic chemists and pursuing his own innovative research will be useful in exploring food technology and sustainability improvements as part of Radicle Growth’s portfolio expansion. This aligns with Angel’s sustainability values in wanting to address environmental sustainability and governance in investments and innovation. As an organic chemist, he sees the Innovator Fellowship as an opportunity to put “sustainability at the forefront and focus solely on alternative methods in the tech space.”
Advancing the Food System through Sustainability
In our early discussions, we quickly identified our shared interest in understanding the food sector from a systems perspective and pursuing research on enabling technologies to ‘do more with less’ in terms of the use of land, water, energy, and other material inputs into food production
– Dr. Edward Spang, UC Davis Food Science & Technology Professor
Derrick holds a deep conviction for advancing sustainable food system practices: “As we move toward 2050, I feel we need to reassess our system, and I need to do whatever I can to help with that.” This aligns well with the core mission of FTW Ventures, and is precisely what drew Derrick to the Innovator Fellowship opportunity. The venture capital host based in California invests in disruptive sciences and technology to transform the global food system by preserving the best of what nature has to offer and amplifying it through their investment channels. With interest in alternate protein production on the rise, FTW is particularly keen on Derrick’s research and TEA capabilities. He can offer a unique perspective on the viability of start-ups wanting to bring their vision to market, and will play a vital role in supporting FTW’s portfolio exploration.
