OVERVIEW

The UC Davis Innovation Institute for Food and Health (IIFH) is looking for qualified applicants for a one year Science Communication Fellowship. The selected fellow will utilize their academic research background and experience in science communication to help translate papers and materials from the IIFH and our partners into content suitable for a broader, non-expert audience. Projects may include:

• Composing and posting social media language on Twitter and LinkedIn

• Writing briefs succinctly summarizing white papers and market reports

• Generate media kits (sample posts, language, tags) for advisory board members

• Writing longer-form Medium posts for online distribution

• Managing the publication of communications on IIFH website

• Assisting editorial team with scientific literature search and proofreading

 

COMMITMENT & ELIGIBILITY

• 50% flexible, remote appointment (~20 hrs/week)

• 12 months commitment; start date flexible, no later than beginning of Spring quarter

• Must be graduate student or postdoc with scientific research background–PhD candidates and Postdocs highly encouraged to apply

• Experience with science communication required, with preference for experience in nonacademic environments (ex. blogging, non-UCD outreach)

 

COMPENSATION

• 50% Stipend coverage by IIFH for duration of fellowship:

• Tuition and salary (at existing rate) for PhD students (or masters)

• 50% salary for Postdocs
